Yes, Virginia, There is Another Yarn Shop!

There are now four yarn shops in Fort Collins, which I do believe the fiber-community here can support. Three of these shops are located within a two-mile radius of my house, and I’m definitely familiar with two of those three. The fourth shop, The Loopy Ewe, opened it’s doors in Fort Collins today, at Front Range Village at Harmony & Ziegler Roads.

According to their website, Loopy Ewe is a family business that has been in operation since 2006.  In addition to the retail location, The Loopy Ewe has a significant online presence, including mail order and they have recently relocated their operation from Saint Louis to Fort Collins.

I visited the shop today thinking that I might be able to find a specific color of Cascade 220 for a project that I’ve been thinking about, and my, oh my, what an impressive shop it is.  It’s located on the second floor with windows on two sides, so it is very bright during the day.  The inventory on the sales floor is very well organized by yarn weights that are then separated by company and/or yarn.  I was extremely impressed by the huge assortment of high quality yarns, in such beautiful arrays of colors!

My intention of coming away with one skein of Cascade 220 was, of course, a delusion.  I did, in fact, find the color of 220 that I was looking for, in addition to two other colors, AND I could not resist a skein of Sweet Georgia, Tough Love Sock yarn (as I remember reading Sweet Georgia’s blog when she started working on the TKGA Master Knitter program, some years ago.)

While I was there, I did not get a chance to talk with Sheri, herself, but the staff was very friendly.  I was overwhelmed by the number of different yarns, the gorgeous colors, and by the fact that I had only one project in mind.  The effort to keep myself from buying any number of different yarns was quite a feat, but I repeatedly reminded myself of my already excessive stash, and of the fact that aside from the hat for which I purchased the Cascade, I had no specific projects in mind.

I will certainly go back with knitting friends and/or knitting students in tow!
