An Unexpected Thank You!
During this school year, I have been mentoring the son of a friend, who I’ve known for some time. He was required to complete an independent project during his sophomore year in high school and decided that he wanted to write a knitting book, based on patterns he’d designed using mathematical charts and doodles from his school notebooks as the bands of hats and headbands.
Today, he presented his project to a panel of teachers, and then met me for our final meeting. He and his father were at the coffee shop where we normally meet. They came with the first copy of the pattern booklet, a thank you note and an invitation to the public presentation of all of the sophomore projects, as well as some lovely irises for me. What a wonderful surprise for a lovely spring day!
